BOUND, an exhibition of sculpture by Ali Darke, reflects on the experience of embodiment; being, having and inhabiting a body. As an archive to our lives, the porous threshold of the skin and psyche meticulously records the alchemical exchange between body, mind and environment. Unruly, and in discord with the self we might wish to escape from the entrapment of the body by flights of fancy and dissociation. Through cutting, stuffing and stitching warn blankets and linen sheets the work evolves into corporeal like forms and fragmented parts, that express these conflicts, hovering between growth and decay, beauty and abjection.

BRING TO LIGHT:
This exhibition of recent work by Ali Darke, Suzi Morris and Yaroslaff Soltan, reveals a shared quest by each artist to bring to light that which has previously remained hidden, un-known, or even un-thought through the creative process itself. They recognise in each other’s work the fundamental questions of absence and presence. To ‘bring something to light’ implies not only exposing a truth by an unearthing, a dredging up, or an uprooting from the depths but also the possibility of making apparent, bringing into the mind and materialising that which is intangible and resists representation, defies being and is possibly uncomfortable to behold.
Each artist, through their unique process and medium, be it paint, materiel or object attend to their preoccupations, and through the alchemical process of creation experience a transformation and discovery.
